I felt like experimentng again wth a previous idea of making a drawing extra realistic by making it life-size and close-by its subject as well as using the normal process of creating likeness by repeating a subject's shape elsewhere. I tried the metal fence as a subject before realising that the bench may have more potential. The wooden bench is a fixed part of the Articulate decor, and the drawing is distinguished from it by being temporary and outlined in woollen yarn across from it on the wall. The bench is roughly 3.7m long, and the wall about 3.2m high, which means that the flat rectangle of the bench (including its short return against its long length) could be drawn in outline on the wall as it could extend onto the floor by about 500mm, enabling it to further resemble its subject as the bend of that 'extension' is also like the return at the back of the bench. The outline was first drawn in thin red yarn, then in a 12ply dark pink, then in a 12 ply ochre, till finally I settled on a double line of pink and ochre yarns which made it feel more 'solid', inadvertantly giving it another way of resembling its more literally solid subject. I also learned more about the role of colour in installation in the process. Thanks to WeiZen Ho and Kate Mackay for helping make the drawing.
