appease the sun 2007
SNO, Marrickville, Sydney.
appease the sun was a drawing the same proportion as the room in which it was built, parrallel to the floor, at chest height for most adult visitors, made from unbound yellow oxide that came off on our hands and clothes, and was like the sunshine that, at certain times of the day, shone onto it through the north-facing windows. These aspects of the drawing are lost in photographic documentation, and are represented in it, instead, by images of visitors who agreed to be photographed performing arm movements across the drawing and in the direction of the window.
